Welding procedures · EXC 2 · Mild steel

Welding procedures that stand up to inspection.

Weldcore helps UK steel fabricators write, qualify and document welding procedures to BS EN ISO 15614-1 and 15609-1, and plan production so work keeps moving through the shop.

Why Weldcore

Fewer surprises at test, audit and on the shop floor.

Fewer failed test pieces

Parameters, material grouping and the test plan are checked before the test piece is welded, which reduces the risk of a failed qualification.

Documents an inspector can follow

pWPS, WPS and inspection and test plans written clearly, so your third-party inspector is not chasing queries.

Production that flows

Sequencing, material flow and workstation loading reviewed to find bottlenecks and lift throughput without cutting quality.

Services

Three ways to work together.

Welding procedure support

BS EN ISO 15614-1 · 15609-1

Prepare, qualify and document procedures from first draft to released WPS.

  • pWPS development to BS EN ISO 15609-1
  • Parent material grouping (ISO/TR 15608)
  • Test piece and test plan preparation, including NDT and destructive tests
  • Range of qualification checks
  • Liaison with your third-party inspector through to the WPQR

Responsible welding coordination

BS EN 1090-2 · EXC 2

Welding coordination for mild steel fabrication to execution class 2.

  • Review of existing WPS and WPQR sets
  • Welder qualification records (BS EN ISO 9606-1) checked against the work
  • Inspection and test plans (ITP) for weld work
  • Weld inspection forms and traceability records
  • Gap review ahead of a third-party audit

Production planning and efficiency review

Flow · Sequencing · Capacity

A structured look at how work moves through your shop, delivered as a written report.

  • Process and material flow mapping
  • Bottleneck and capacity analysis by workstation
  • Weld sequencing and scheduling
  • Prioritised recommendations you can act on
  • PRINCE2 project planning for one-off jobs

Procedure qualification

From draft to released WPS in five steps.

The route a welding procedure takes through BS EN ISO 15609-1 and 15614-1. Weldcore covers each step and works with your chosen inspector on the witnessing and certification.

  1. 1

    Draft the pWPS

Joint, material, process and parameters set out in a preliminary WPS.

    ISO 15609-1
  2. 2

    Weld the test piece

Welded to the pWPS, with the test plan agreed beforehand.

    Test plan
  3. 3

    Test

Visual and NDT, then destructive tests as the standard requires.

    ISO 15614-1
  4. 4

    Certify the WPQR

Results reviewed against acceptance levels and the record certified.

    WPQR
  5. 5

    Release the WPS

Production WPS issued within the qualified range.

    ISO 15609-1

About

Welding coordination, third-party inspection and project management in one person.

Current scope: mild steel fabrication to EXC 2. If your work falls outside that, ask and I will tell you plainly.

  • Responsible Welding Coordinator

Qualified to Execution class 2 (EXC 2) in mild steel.

  • Third-party inspection experience

Worked as a welding surveyor for a UKAS-accredited third-party inspection company, reviewing WPQRs and WQTCs.

  • Project and operations management

PRINCE2 qualified, with the last 10 years as operations and project manager at an engineering company that manufactures its own products.

Not sure which qualification you need?

Tell me the material, the thickness range and the standard your customer asks for. I will reply with the documents and tests that points to.
